CAUTION: The 12-volt DC adapter plug was designed to avoid internal short circuits, however, it may be possible to blow the fuse in some USA vehicles when only the small plug from the lantern is disconnected and the large cigarette plug remains connected to the 12V DC adapter socket. In this situation, if the small plug contacts the metal of the vehicle, the fuse may blow. Therefore, always remove the large DC plug from the DC adapter socket first. This caution applies to any vehicle, RV, boat, etc., in which the 12-volt DC adapter plug is used. NOTE: On some automobiles, the DC receptacle is turned on and off by the ignition switch. T o Charge: Connect the small end of the proper adapter cord to the hole in the lantern collar. Connect the other end of the adapter to the appropriate electrical outlet. (Fig. 2) A small red light located on the body, next to the adapter cord hole, will glow when the charger is connected correctly.

T o obtain maximum per formance, charge for 18 hours for the first three cycles. Charge indoors using household source. On a full charge, the continuous run time is up to 10 hours on LOW and 5 hours on HIGH. T otal run time will increase if the unit is turned on and off intermittently. Do not leave the lantern turned on after the battery has stopped, as overdischarging the battery can cause problems in recharging the batter y to a full charge. If this does occur, immediately switch the lantern off and recharge for 40 hours. After an extended period of storage (more than 6 months), recharge for the full 16 hours or more. The lantern can be recharged after first charging from either a 120-volt AC wall outlet in your home or garage using the 120-volt AC adapter, or from a 12-volt DC receptacle in a car, boat, or RV, using the 12-volt DC adapter plug. The 12-volt DC adapter plug is equipped with an internal, resetable-fuse in case of power surges. The 12-volt DC adapter plug and 120-volt AC adapter are stored inside the base of the unit. There is a small door that is accessible on bottom of base. (Fig. 1) This lantern is also equipped with an emergency on feature. If the lantern is set to the Low or High setting while charging and power is disrupted, the lantern will turn on.

I'm a little surprised the battery hasn't needed replacement in all this time. I use the lantern daily for evening walks with my dog on the wooded trails near my house. Also use it for camping (it's original intended purpose). Used it for a 3-night campout last August and the battery held up fine for the entire trip. I purchased this to retire my old Coleman 2-mantle gas lantern (my father is turning over in his grave!), which this lantern is obviously patterned after. One couldn't look directly at the gas lantern either. The lantern is easily hung above head height when using it as a stationary light. What exactly are people complaining about. If you find one used, don't hesitate. The internal SLA battery is easily replaced and inexpensive. (Search for Coleman 4345 rechargeable lantern and replacement batteries are the first results.) As long as the switch and (non replaceable?) Cree LED light are working, it's a winner. The directions are to plug it in for charging which takes about 16 hours. Out of the box, this lantern was plugged in for more than 24 hours. The red charging indicator never turned green, and only the night light would work. I wish I had read the customer comments on Coleman's own website before ordering it. I'm going to get another one of those, and just make sure that we have plenty of D cells on hand before the next emergency. During Sandy, we used that D-cell lantern every evening and it never burned out the original four batteries. It throws enough light that some of our neighbors thought we had a generator or other source of power. Hope this helps. -- Bob Please try again later. From the United StatesI purchased it in December 2011. It is now December 2019 and the lantern still works fine. The internal SLA battery is easily replaced and inexpensive. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Brandon McFarland 5.0 out of 5 stars The first night camping after we had gone to sleep, an un-forecasted torrential downpour of rain and hail descended upon our campsite. The lantern was sitting on the table the whole night. A lot of stuff got ruined, but the lantern still worked like a charm. This thing puts off a lot of light. If it is eye level, then you can't look in the direction of it. Other than being blinded temporarily, it is an awesome lantern. Please try again later. Please try again later. If the light bulb is still not working, check each light bulb for burn or scorch marks that may indicate a bad bulb. The bulbs must be replaced in order to fix this issue by removing the old bulbs and inserting the replacement bulbs. Make sure the lantern has been plugged into charge for at least 8 hours and the charging light is on while it is plugged in. If the lightbulbs still don’t turn on after charging, open the panel on the bottom of the lantern and check the battery for corrosion. Corrosion could be an indicator of a dirty battery connection. In rare cases, the battery must be removed and a new one should be installed. To check if the switch is broken, make sure the lantern charges fully and that charging light indicates it is charging. Also, check to make sure the current lightbulbs are not broken and defective. If the battery and lightbulbs are functioning properly but the lantern does not power on, the switch may need to be replaced. It might be necessary to clean the contact and threads on the inside of the lantern in order for the battery to hold a charge again. If you have a voltage reader, check to see if the lantern is putting out volts from the charger. If it is not reading voltage, it could indicate an issue with the cord.

Check the connectors for the battery on the inside of the lantern to make sure they are not corroded and if so, clean them using q-tips and vinegar. Leave the charger connected to the lantern for a period of time, the charging functionality may still be intact. If there is another charging cable on hand, check to see if the problem lies in the charger itself. If this occurs problem occurs, the battery may not be connected properly. Ensure that the batteries inside the lantern have been inserted with the correct polarity. From here, please refer to the other troubleshooting guides involving faulty main board, faulty switch, and faulty light bulbs. However, in order for this process to happen the motherboard’s wires must be connected to the battery. During everyday use, the wires can become detached to either the motherboard or battery. If there is no connection made between the wires and battery, the motherboard does not have the power to activate the switch. Check by opening the bottom of the lantern to see if the wires are connected to both the battery and motherboard. The motherboard supplies the power and when there is no power to the motherboard the switch will not turn the lantern on. This could be due to water damage, faulty electronics, blown capacitors or fuses. Double check the motherboard connecting the switch and the battery to see if they are fully attached. A voltage meter may also be used. The switch sends a signal to the motherboard which acts as the central operating system.Check the circuit board for discoloration or burn marks where it may have shorted. If the motherboard has been shorted, the device and its components may have also been damaged. Replace the the motherboard by removing the bottom panel and disconnecting the wires and connections to the board. After the motherboard has been removed, reconnect the wires and connections to the replacement motherboard and reassemble the lantern.

This lantern was charged up and ready to go before the storm, and was able to get us through the three days of power outage with about 3 -5 hours per night of judicious use. This lantern works best if hung above eye level as the LED light is probably too bright for most people. However, this lantern gives off sufficient light for reading at night with no eye strain. This is a huge plus when the only entertainment during a blizzard with no electricity is a good book. I used night light, lo and hi settings, and I found that there was significant changes in illumination from setting to setting. The power cable and car charging unit can be stored inside of the lantern base. I leave mine plugged into the wall outlet for on-demand lighting when needed. I particularly like the car charger capability, although I have not yet had occasion to use it. Overall, great product for the intended use of emergency lighting in the home or light for the campsite. Please try again later. I have generators for extended outages, but having instant light is a comfort for the entire family especially granddaughter who does NOT like sudden darkness. I bought my first lantern many years ago and it is still working well. I would urge everyone to have a rechargeable Coleman Lantern. Please try again later. Please try again later. Thunder Storm 3.0 out of 5 stars I decided on this lantern because of the LED light source. However, the light that flows out is not easy on the eye. It does not cast out a nice light, in my opinion.

We have it located in a room where if the electricity goes off, we need an immediate emergency light. This works great for that function and the light from this lantern is ok for this purpose. Please try again later. Please try again later. Chris Diane 4.0 out of 5 stars It was great in keeping the light on for simple tasks through out the home. One slight problem is that it is hard on the eyes if it is near the eyes. When in the middle of the table one cannot help but occassionaly look up at the latern - the LEDs can be too bright. We are use to the previous model with a flourecent bulb or two. Other than that it is easy to recharge and have ready for the next emergency. Amazon was quick to deliver the product. Please try again later. Please try again later. Fred E 5.0 out of 5 stars I found out the value of this when we had a recent power failure. I had it charging on the second floor and, although the house was plunged into total darkness, I was able to walk right to it because it illuminated the room. It lasts several days without recharging (if you are judicious with its use) and that is with using the night light too. I liked it so much that I bought two more. Please try again later. Please try again later. Janizary 5.0 out of 5 stars From cheap junk to overly-expensive specialty items. This coleman hits a sweet spot for price and performance. Pros: - Nice and Bright - 12v rechargable cable (which makes recharging from my Brunton 26W solar panel nice!) - Light at max intensity actualy lasts a bit longer than the spec says it will. Surprising as this is the FIRST LED lantern that I've owned that actually came anywhere near the spec on the box. VERY PLEASED! Cons: - A diffuser might have been a good option (Don't look into the light!) I'm going to pick up a 2nd one and may try the other coleman that has a diffuser on it.Please try again later. Please try again later. Kamille Kies 4.

Coleman’s QuadPro lantern combines rechargeable AAA NiMh cells with a more traditional, D-cell powered base unit (which accommodates rechargeable D batteries as well). With easy battery access on the lantern’s stable base, either 4 or 8 cells power the entire unit while energizing the panels. Each of the quartet of palm-sized removable panels musters three lighting choices: low, high and flashlight. Testers, used to having at least one group member show up 1) without a flashlight or headlamp or 2) out of battery power, loved dishing the long-runtime LED rectangles out.

With a folding stand on the back of each (that doubles as a handle), the panels worked their magic during latrine runs, in-tent card games and to illuminate night creatures. Even the flashlight function, clocking up to 100 hours’ runtime, proved useful along dark trails and while digging through duffel bags. Not inconsequentially, each is equipped with two small magnets capable of adhering to steel vehicles and tool boxes for even greater off-base agility. And as with some camp lanterns under test, it offers a rubber-capped USB 5V 1amp utility charging port. The durable wire handle at the top aided transport as the unit is on the heavy side for campsite hanging. Not the least expensive we tried, the Coleman QuadPro 800L LED Lantern is among the brightest options for campground use. It's not charging up. Now from past experience I've done everything I'm supposed to from day 1. Even put it on charge after camping before packing it away. It will be back to rays today for a refund. Not bothering to replace it. Very disappointing Coleman. You really need to get your act together with this. Compare all Sambocca AU First charge and use when camping was fine but on the second trip, however many months later, the main light didn't work—only the night light. Back to BCF for the first exchange. The second red lantern had exactly the same problem (note these problems are only found out once you're a long way from home and you're left without a tent safe light for the entirely of the camping trip). Back to BCF for secon. Read more d exchange (3rd red lantern). Again the same thing happened. Back to BCF to tell them to stuff their red lantern where lanterns don't shine (when they work that is). The BCF sales guy admitted that the red lanterns do have an issue in regard to the main light packing in and only the night light working.

I said give me anything but a Coleman, but against my better judgement the sales guy talked me into the 'green' Coleman lantern which apparently didn't suffer from the same problem and, this was the clincher, it had a regular battery pack as backup if the rechargeable one failed. As expected on the next trip away the rechargeable battery failed, but no fear, I had the regular battery backup. We put up with this nonsense for a while until our latest trip to Morton Island a few weeks ago where even with the battery pack in (and treating it like a bone china cup), the bloody thing still didn't work. If you slapped it just right it might go on for a while until a mozzie landed on it and it went off again. It's now seven years since I bought that first red lantern and I've not had a single trip away without some kind of trouble with your lanterns and in most cases we simply didn't have tent light for duration of the trip. After seven years I'm not interested in receipts and taking the thing back to BCF, I'm just putting it in the bin and will be buying some other brand—anything has to be better than one of your lanterns. I don't think I've ever come across such a poor product and it's the one you have embedded in your logo!Reputedly dodgy charging setups with these Coleman lights.
