Variable torque reduces the torque in a proportion of the square of the speed. Constant Torque uses a linear relationship of torque and speed. Variable torque is used in fan and pump application. The overload rating for variable torque is 120% for 60 seconds. Constant torque has an overload rating of 150% for 60 seconds and 200% for 3 seconds. On loads such as a fan little torque is needed at lower speeds, as the speed increases so does the force of the air. This creates a demand for greater torque at higher speeds and lower torque at lesser speeds. Because Variable torque uses less torque at lower speeds it adds to savings on cost. Constant torque is ideal when the torque must be the same across the entire speed range. A conveyor is a good example to use. On a conveyor you may be moving the same amount of weight at varying speeds. You will need the percent of torque to move it at a low speed as a higher speed. You cannot always rely on the HP or KW value, some motors have special characteristics that greatly change the amount of current that it draws. You should ALWAYS make sure the output voltage range of the drive meets the input voltage rating of the motor, and that the FLA of the motor is less than or equal to the drive’s output current rating. Ensur e that the material surr ounding the pr oduct can withstand this temperatur e. WARNING Install this pr oduct on nonflammable material such as metal. 4. When installing this pr oduct in a contr ol panel, consider ventilation to pr event the drive’ s ambient temperatur e from exceeding the specified value. Do not install the pr oduct in an ar ea from which heat cannot be suf ficiently r eleased. 5. If two or mor e drives must be installed in the same device or contr ol panel, arrange the units horizontally to minimize the ef fect of heat. If two or mor e drives must be installed vertically, place an insulated plate between the drives to minimize the ef fect of heat. 6. When shipped fr om the factory, drives provide internal cooling inside the panel. A drive of 30HP or less can be converted to external cooling simply by adding an optional mounting adapter. CAUTION Ensure that the drive and heat sink surfaces ar e kept free of for eign matter such as lint, paper dust, small chips of wood or metal, and dust. When a motor is driven by a PWM-type drive, the motor terminals may be subject to sur ge voltage generated by drive element switching. If the motor cable (with 460V series motors, in particular) is particularly long, sur ge voltage will deteriorate motor insulation. Long-term Storage If the pr oduct is to be stored for an extended period of time after pur chase, the method of storage depends primarily on the storage location. When you need to connect sour ce type logic, r efer to Basic Connection Diagram Fig. 2-3-3 and Fig. 2-3-4 and T echnical Information Manual. (Sink Logic is commonly used in the USA and Sour ce Logic is commonly used in Europe.) ( 5 ) Others 1. T o prevent a malfunction as a r esult of noise, contr ol terminal cables must be placed as far as possible from the main circuit cables. 2. The control cables inside the inverter must be secured to prevent direct contact with the main circuit (e.g., main circuit terminal block).
If the insulation of a control line is damaged, the control signals may be exposed to high voltage in the main cir cuit. The Low V oltage Directive in Europe also restricts the exposure to high voltage. Electric shock may result CAUTION The inverter, motor, and cables generate noise. Check that the ambient sensors and devices do not malfunction. Accident may r esult. Wire size from NEC tables 310-16. Copper wire rated 60 Deg. C for 100amps or less, 75 Deg. C for over 100 amps in 30 Deg. C ambient and 1.25 times Drive rated amps. These are minimum wire sizes: consult and confirm to local and national codes. T able 3-2-1 lists general methods of operation. 3.3 T rial Run Once inspection is completed (see Section 3-1), pr oceed with a trial run. The motor is initially disconnected and the drive is operated (factory setting) using the keypad panel. 1. T ur n power on and confirm that the LED monitor display 0.00 Hz is blinking. 2. Set the frequency to about 5 Hz using key. 3. T o start the run, pr ess FWD key (for forwar d rotation) or REV key (for r everse rotation). T o stop, pr ess STOP key. V erify fr equency increases for zer o to the set point. Connect motor and r epeat steps 1-3 4. Check the following items: a. Is the direction of r otation corr ect? b. Is the r otation smooth (no buzzing or abnormal vibration)? c. Are acceleration and deceleration smooth? 5. If no abnormality is detected, incr ease the frequency and check the above items again. If the r esults of the trial run ar e normal, start a formal run. 3. Operation 3.1 Inspection and Preparation Before Operation Check the following befor e operation: 1. Check that the connections ar e corr ect. Never r emove the cover while power is applied to the drive. T o ensur e safety, do not operate switches with wet hands. Electric shock may r esult. The smoothing capacitor in the drive is char ged after the power is turned off and it is not dischar ged immedi- ately.
Before touching an electric cir cuit, confirm that the char ge lamp is off or use a multimeter to check that the volatge has decreased below 25 VDC for low voltage at the DC (P-N) terminals. The keypad panel can also be r emoved or inserted during inverter operation. FUNC D ATA Used to switch the LED monitor or to determine the entered fr equency, function code, or data Used to change data, move the cursor up or down, or scroll the scr een SHIFT Used to move the cursor horizontally at data change. When this key is pressed with the up or down key, the cursor moves to the next function block. RESET Used to cancel current input data and switch the displayed scr een. The selected mode is displayed on the LCD monitor. When these keys are operated, function F01 data is also switched fr om 0 to 3 or from 1-4 to 0. The selected mode is displayed on the LCD indicator. 4. Keypad Panel LED monitor 4-digit display. Used to display data such as setting fr equency, output frequency and alarm code. Auxiliary Information Related to LED Monitor Indicates selected units or multiple of the data shown on the LED monitor and is displayed on the top line of the LCD monitor. The symbol indicates that ther e is an upper screen not curr ently displayed. LCD Monitor: Used to display various items of information such as operation status and function data. An operating guide message, is scr olled and displayed at the bottom of the LCD monitor. This LCD monitor has a backlight featur e which turns on when the contr ol power is applied or any keypad key is pressed, and stays on appr oximately 5 minutes after the last key str oke.
