    While the job is not particular difficult or expensive or time-consuming, it does involve crawling around in the dust underneath the car and there is a high likelihood that quite a bit of fluid will end up being where it is not supposed to be (namely the floor, your hands, and your hair). So they have to be tightened down REALLY HARD in order to seal perfectly. If you put teflon tape on thread AND tighten down really hard, like most who don't understand the forces a tapered thread can generate, you will CRACK the aluminum case and it will drip forever.     I personally find it a bit dangerous since car can roll away once rear wheel s are off the ground and besides my E39 has rubber jacking point in the front and nothing except rear differential on the back that I could use as jacking point. Read the label and make sure you are going to use the right fluid for you gearbox. Here is view of transmission from under the car. And definitely use either sockets or box-end wrenches to break seize. I almost stripped my fill plug flange when tried to use open end of wrench. Believe me it is very soft. I seriously doubt that it is healthy to have it in the gearbox for the life of car. Using hand pump and plastic tube pump transmission fluid into fill hole until it overfills and it starts to leak out of the fill hole. While internal transmission servicing and rebuilding should be done by professionals, there are a lot of things on the outside of the transmission that you can service or replace yourself. These are machined from solid aluminum and have zero deflection, engine torque will cause a rubber or urethane mount to flex or deflect allowing more torque to passed through the drive line (instead of being wasted winding up the mount). This puts the shift linkages in better consistent alignment. And unlike rubber or urethane the aluminum has zero wear and is not affected by leaking oil or other fluids so this is likely the last set of transmission mounts you will ever need. We very strongly recommend using the solid transmission and engine mounts together as a complete kit, mixing a rubber mount with a metal mount will cause undue stress on the mounting points and will lead to a failure. We never advise using a solid mount unless a corresponding solid mount is also used. These are a no-compromise design for all-out racing use, full solid aluminum mounts should not be used on street-driven cars since there is no material to absorb vibration making these quite harsh for regular street use (track cars don't care about noise).

    Synthetic D4 ATF is suitable for use where Dexron III, Dexron II, or Mercon fluids are recommended. ATF D4 is similar to Red Line's MTL formula and can be used in many BMW manual transmissions where MTF or MTF-LT2 is called for. The D4 ATF provides significantly improved gear protection than most OEM oils. The balanced frictional characteristics provides smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure. The MTL can be used as a replacement for the factory MTF or MTF-LT2 used by BMW. Add MTL to older BMWs that have become tough to shift will restore shift smoothness. BMW transmission mounts are rubber and get softer over time. This allows the transmission to dance around which changes the geometry of the shift linkage and could make it harder to shift. These urethane transmission bushings are stiffer than the stock rubber mounts and won't let the transmission shift around as much. The round design also has more surface area than the stock mounts which helps spread the load.

    Because the urethane is stiffer, expect more vibration to make its way into the shift lever area. Engine motor mounts should also be considered as a cause for driveline vibration, transmission movement, and poor shifting. Mostly because european countries take driving more seriously than americans do.This group not only buys the car primarily for day-to-day business activities, but they also lease them in order to write off 100% of the cost of the lease from their tax liabilities. A lease buyer is going to buy what's on the lot 90% of the time. You really have to be patient for one. I circumvented this 90 day time line by ordering mine for euro delivery. Still, it took 60 days before I could pick mine up from the plant. But, when I dropped it off in France to be shipped back home, it took 45 days in transit on a boat. So there's really no time savings in retrospect. The V8 buyers are more selective and its largest customer base comes from the professional sector, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, etc.and they more often will buy outright vs. lease. They see themselves holding onto the car for 5 or more yrs., therefore they don't mind waiting out the 90 day period so they could get exactly what they want in the car.

Generally, enthusiast are after the manual transmissions which make them much harder to get ahold of. Think of all the cars that are being scrapped, parted out (worth more as parts than a whole car), wrecked, or just plain not for sale. The F model 5 Series was also a car of firsts. Models had an eight-speed auto, active rear-wheel steering, electric power steering and more. The headlights are lower and wider, and don’t push back up the wings as far, while the real lights are wider and thinner. For this generation, BMW ditched the GT version and moved it into the 6 Series range. This tire is designed to enhance traction in the wet and snow without seriously sacrificing dry-weather handling. The tires are rated for speeds up to 130 mph. The outer tread blocks are large, and they're joined together by a narrow band of rubber to provide a stiff shoulder. Smaller inner tread blocks provide more bite on the slippery stuff. The rubber compound is softer than that of a typical all-season tire, and it's uniform over the depth of all treads. On a dry skidpad, the Pirellis give up little in lateral adhesion, producing 0.82 g versus the stock tires' 0.84 g. We expect the tires would last for about 35,000 miles in our hard-charging hands.
